In 1976, Chettinad Rani Meyyammai Boarding house was recognized to be responsible for a home away from home. Patron Padma Bhushan Dr. Rajah Sir M. A Muthiah Chettiar donated the corpus to create the Hostel at the behest of Mrs. Madhuben Shah, W/o. Shri K. K Shah, and previous Governor of Tamil Nadu.
Smt. Sigapi Ramasamy, affectionately known as Achi, has been an integral part of the Hostel’s construction since the foundation was laid. Her dream was to provide a safe and stable atmosphere for all girls who applied for admission to the Hostel. Her commitment to the cause and her enthusiastic participation, and her ability to provide a pleasant stay for the Hostel’s residents were instrumental in realizing this vision.
Rani Meyyammai Hostel, which renowned for its silvery jubilee on August 14, 2001, has been successfully catering to the well-being of its residents for the past 44 years.
The Honorable Prime Minister of India, Smt. Indira Gandhi laid the foundation stone on September 20, 1973, in His Excellency Shri K. K Shah. His Excellency Shri Uma Shankar Dikshit, Governor of Karnataka, opened the Hostel on February 2, 1976.
The Hostel, which is located in the heart of Chennai, provides students with a healthy, caring, and hygienic atmosphere and all modern amenities. Smt. Sigapi Ramasamy, also known as Achi, has been an integral part of the Hostel’s growth since its inception. Her goal was to create a healthy and stable atmosphere for the girls living away from home. Her unwavering commitment and determination to attend to the Hostel’s residents’ every need were crucial in realizing this vision.
On August 14, 2001, Rani Meyyammai Hostel renowned for its Silver Jubilee. The Girls Hostel in Chennai is fully fitted and offers a relaxed stay and nourishing food to all of its guests.
